'hair.wav' is a sound piece made with recordings of hair being cut, washed, razored, touched. It is aimed to accompany a short film by Jordan McRae and Emma Diamond as part of Emma's 'hair.wav' exhibition at Listen Gallery in Glasgow.

Emma Diamond is a hair stylist and sound artist from Glasgow, debuting with an exhibition that blends the worlds of sound and hair and explores their connection. The piece was realised collecting recordings of Emma working with hair, emphasising the proximity and intimacy of the experience. Similarly to Emma's approach to cutting hair, the track wants to maintain the natural texture and organicity of the sounds collected, for this reason no effects were used apart re-pitching and stretching the sound sources. Melodic and unexpected sounds are the result of the extremely stretched recordings, to which occasional eq-ing was applied.The short film by Jordan McRae and Emma Diamond deepens the abstract and organic feel of the sound piece, zooming in and immersing into lights and details of hair, and creating visual playgrounds that sounds can inhabit.
The exhibition features works by artists Anouska Samms and Sanne Visser, complementing the space with tactile and sculptural elements utilising human hair as main material.
The green Salon Collective also contributes with a series of items showing how hair can be used & recycled and can contribute to solve environmental issues.

The accompanying artwork is a cyanotype made by Emma Diamond and part of a series of other artworks displayed in the gallery.

The exhibition is showing at Listen Gallery in Glasgow from the 20th to the 28th of April 2024.
